Government Official States Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the possible threats posed by Chinese vehicles, and personnel have been advised to avoid discussing classified matters in any vehicles.

Safety Advice for MoD Personnel

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed claims that MoD officials have been told not to talk about classified information while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister explained that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but noted that safety is a concern in all modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any kind of car, because of the growing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone concerned about security.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every cars from China, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Security Background

This revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to disable buses and cause chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been shining lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

This wider defence situation highlights the importance of strong protocols and vigilance in all areas of government operations, from vehicle use to discussions practices.
