Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking official stated the attack left him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
